At last some progress!! Having spent the last couple of months running round sorting other peoples boats out, I have finally got round to spending some time on my own.....well sort of. I haven't been near the boat itself for about a month, and the last time I saw it there were some kids throwing coke cans at it, I guess it looks a bit neglected! Anyhow I have managed to get the keel sorted at last. It had a couple of coats of VC Tar some months ago and then last week I applied some really good fairing compound to get the keel looking something like. With that sanded and the process repeated three or four times to get a good finish I have now added another couple of coats of VC Tar. There will be another four to five coats to finish the job and hey presto the keel will be ready for fitting! More news soon hopefully.

The faired keel ready for more VC Tar

At last a keel that looks something like it should!

And from the front!

After a month of mayhem here at the yard I have finally got to sit down for five minutes, inbetween finishing work and taking delivery of some kayaks....things never end!! I have finally decided on a name for the boat, and after much celebration by my staff we have added the name to the as yet unpainted hull. You will no doubt notice from the photos that ALL the deck hardware has now been removed, giving a very "minimalist" look!! With lots going on workwise and the shed in bits (we are adding another section to the mezzanine floor) there isn't much room for "Pan Fried", so I guess it will be a few weeks before we see any more progress. Meantime have a look at the photos!

New Name & Logo!

Out with the old and in with the new!

If it wasn't on a trailer there is very little to give the boat any scale, which is why these yachts were dubbed mini ocean going cruisers.

Exciting interior....or whats left of it!

Well its all go at the moment, I have spent a couple of hours today removing the old deck hardware in preparation for some paint. Most of the bits came off easily and without any any pain. I still have the stanchions, two winches, push and pulpit and the stemhead fitting, but these really need two people. I have also removed one of the windows. This wasn't overly taxing, although the frame broke as it was taken off. I took a couple of photos of the window aperture when the frame and perspex came out. One shows the rebate that the perspex sits in and it really is quite a simple arrangement, the other shows the perspex window itself and how loose a fit it really was. I was originally going to get just new perspex for the windows but I will have to find a company to manufacture some new frames, which shouldn't be too difficult.

The rebate for the perspex to sit in.

Perspex in place, look at the gap!

Well, work has begun properly. The interior is now out of the boat, the rudder and skeg are off, the keel is out and in the shed and the boat has had the antifoul removed.

The keel was easy to remove with the hoist and came out quite easily after an hour of gravity had done its work!, the rudder skeg has come off too and this has been sent away to be used as a pattern for some new castings for a couple of boats here in the yard.

I will probably put some ties on the inside when the keel goes back in to transfer at least some of the rig loadings down to the keel which should make for a stiffer boat.

As you can see from the photos, the boat is now at a workable level and on a roller powerboat trailer which will make life easier when replacing deck hardware and painting. On the painting front I have decided to go for a colour that I have never seen on a Pandora before, but looks good. I can't tell you what the colour is yet, you will have to wait and see!

I am also looking to change the name too, to what I just don't know at this stage, but I am sure that something will spring to mind sooner or later.

Anyhow here are some photos

It isn't a lift keel model!

The keel after blasting

Thats a big chunk to fill in then!

I will post more on here as soon as I do more, but with spring radpidly approaching who knows when that will be!

Happy pandoodling!

On this page I am hoping to document my own progress with pandora number 684 which I have recently aquired.

Although technically it should be an International it has turned out to be a development model for the 700, having the retrousse stern and the skeg hung rudder.

It is my aim to go racing with her during the 2007 season but before that there is some work to be done getting her into racing trim.

So far the interior has been taken out and some of the antifoul has ben stripped, but with lots of winter work to be getting on with here in the yard, that seems to be as far as I have got!

The list of works on the boat somehow seems to get longer each week and currently looks like this:

Sounds easy when its on paper doesnt it!
