RC Laser StuffClick on the links below to learn about why you need an RC Laser in your life! Latest Timcast22/02/12 - The breezometer at the boatyard this morning is spinning like a spinny thing on a spinny day. It's certainly breezy. As well as the breeze it is raining hard too and will more than likely continue this way until later in the day when the wind might die down a bit. |
About Abersoch Boatyard Services LtdThere has been a boatyard of sorts on this site for many many years, and before the leisure boating revolution of the lates 1950's, the yard had accomodated many of the local fishing fleet, as well as the coal boats which plied their trade around the coastline of North Wales. In the early 1960's the yard was established properly and was geared towards servicing the emerging leisure market. It was an all encompassing yard which could supply you with everything and anything you needed. From copper nails to look after you planking, to a fully fitted out sailing boat ready for adventure, this yard had it all. ![]()
As time went by the yard changed hands several times and in July 2004 it was bought by Tim Long. During Tim's ownership the yard has seen a number of developments which have kept the yard running in a competitive marketplace where good honest service counts for a lot. The protective rock armour aroound the outside of the yard was completed in 2011 and with this it has also made the yard much more secure. There was nearly a whole mountains worth of concrete placed outside the shed, which has allowed us to work in a cleaner and tidier environment, which also keeps our customers boats cleaner. Tim has also invested heavily in proper plant to make the running of the yard much smoother, and we have a 10 ton tractor mounted hoist which makes recovery of boats up to 30 feet a doddle
Recovering a 33 foot lift keel yacht from the beach. We now cater mainly for powerboat owners who require seasonal Park & Launch which operates between March and Oactober giving our customers alsmost eight months of on the water time. To facilitate this change to a more power oreinted yard we have had to limit the number and type of yachts we have on winter storage. This gives us more opportunity to devote more time to the preparation of each yacht which ultimately give the owner a better and more pleasurable season. Meet The Team
Tim Long - Owner, desk driver, phone answerer, jester, bbq master and general "making things run smoothly" operative!! Tim has been in charge at the yard since July 2004. He has an excellent background in boating, having learnt to sail at the age of 9. He became a sailing and windsurfing instructor and went to University in Southampton to study Boat Building and Boatyard Management. He has many interests including sailing "toy" boats, walking his Jack Russell "Polly" and generally having a giggle. If Tim isn't at the boatyard he can sometimes be found enjoying a pint in one of the villages many hostelries or at the Lifeboat Station where he is a volounteer.
Huw Hughes - Huw has been at the yard for a good few years now and is an excellent guy to have about the place. He is an excellent boat and tractor mechanic and will turn his hand to anything that needs doing at the yard. Huw is Abersoch born and bred and if he doesn't know it about the village it's probably not worth knowing anyway! In his spare time Huw builds wooden planters in his garage, walks his Labrador "Bella" and is a retained firefighter in the village.
Nick Roberts - Nicko started as a shy work experience kid quite a few years back now. He has developed into a conciencious hard working young man who we are proud to have working for us. He is constantly learning from other staff members and is keen to broaden his knowledge of all things boatyard. In his spare time Nicko enjoys his Xbox 360 and his beloved Ford Focus, which you may have seen around the village. It is our aim here at Abersoch Boatyard Services Ltd to make your boating as easy as possible for you. We operate a friendly, sometimes amusing, boatyard which has been built on offering a good honest service for a good honest price, without flim flam or sky high prices. If you would like further information on anything boatyard related please either give us a call on 01758 713900 or email Tim.

Take a look at our Park & Launch page for more details 14th February 2012 Happy Valentines Day! As well as being a day for buying pointless rubbish for your loved one and generally being too soppy for your own good today will be remembered as the day we launched our For Sale page on the website. It's a pretty self explanatory page, you want to sell something down here in Abersoch and we can advertise it for you. We'll probably have more success advertising boaty type stuff, but if you need to sell you patio heater or even a bbq, send us some details and we'll stick it on the page of you!
9th February 2012 A Boatshow, of sorts! ![]() Having had some success with the RC Lasers Tim has now taken it upon himself to promote the class to a wider audience. With this in mind Tim and his bucket of enthusiasm will be helping out on the MYA stand at The Dinghy Show at Ally Pally on 3rd & 4th March. The MYA is much like the RYA but for model yachts and has over 2000 members in more than 100 clubs accross the UK. We hope to promote not only the RC Laser that we love so much, but also the other classes sailed under the MYA umbrella. If you're in town pop along and say hello!
