As most of you will know the Timcast is really the only reliable weather forecast around, and if its not that reliable it's usually rather amusing.
Tim will not be held responsible should the Timcast not be entirely correct!
WAKESTOCK! - here we are, July, Wakestock...sunshine? Well it doesn't look great for the party goers on Saturday night into Sunday, but not to worry they won't know any different! Generally it doesn't look great for boating on Saturday and Sunday at the moment is looking like a heanously windy day, but with some sunshine. For the first time in a couple of years I am not really involved with "The Stock" and will be, like many others, a casual observer. It must be good though as even my mum and dad are coming down...not specifically for Wakestock, but you never know, they might come along and take a look! As usual the village will descend into chaos, with many thousands of festival people peeing in shop doorways, sleeping rough and generally littering the place up. To their credit the organisers are always on the ball with the cleanup and the village returns to normal within a day or two. This year there is a slightly different format to the wakeboarding at the marina, they are having one fixed rail and a floating funbox which will make for much fairer riding as the tide rises and falls.
I must also apologise for Little Tim. He was booked for a 1pm photoshoot for the Timcast, however he appears to be asleep and he gets an awful strop on if he's woken up at the wrong time!
So then, to the weather!
Friday 10th July
I'm sorry to say that today looks like the best day of the weekend for boating, light North Westerly breeze maybe reaching force 3 so it might be a bit chilly on the water so take a jacket and possibly some soup..or beer if you are watching the wakeboardists doing their thing in the marina. With the wind direction being as it is the water will be flat, with the best places for skiing and boarding being on the Warren side of Llanbedrog headland. Temperatures will be below average for the time of year at 12 - 14 degrees and they will feel possibly a bit below that in the breeze. General weather scenario looks like being one of cloudy with sunny intervals, or sunny with cloudy intervals depending on whether your cup is half full or half empty! As the day progresses the wind will drop out even more into the evening and back to a Westerly and then a Southerly direction before getting up in strength a bit overnight into Saturday.
Summary - Give it a go!
Saturday 11th July
As the day goes it won't be a great one, certainly not for boating! It will start off ok but will degenerate into a rainy afternoon and evening so wellies will be order of the day for all you Stockers, and possibly a brolly and an anorak! The wind is looking odd today, not because it is wearing a dress or anything like that, but some of the forecast models are looking like it will be light to moderate Southerly breeze and others are hinting at a moderate South Easterly breeze which will chop the bay up massively and make it unboatable for all apart from jetskiers. The thing that will decide what happens is the low which is approaching us from the South West. If this comes in and moves North during the night on Friday it will give rise to the South Easterly breeze, but if it stays more to the South it will give us the Southerly breeze on Saturday. Sorry to be all meteorological about it but it is sometimes the best way to describe whats going to happen. In non weatherman terms, it will be windy..or maybe not! One thing that isn't in doubt is that the wind will increase in strength throughout the day, and the direction will change throughout the day also. Strength wise early doors it will be force 3 and later it will increase to a force 5 or 6. I'd love to tell you what time this will happen but it all depends on the pesky low pressure and how fast it moves! General weather will consist of lots of cloud giving way to rain as the low moves in and then some serious rain overnight into Sunday. Sorry!
Summary - take a view when you get up in the morning.
Sunday 12th July
Well today the wind will be the main feature of the weather. It will be funnelled through the bottom side of the low and accelerated in a South Westerly direction so it will be force 6 for most of the day, dropping later in the evening to a force 5. Temperatures will be 16 - 17 degrees bit with the strength of the wind it will feel cooler. General weather is unpredictable at the moment but on the back side of a low you can expect anything really from heavy showers to sunny spells and cloud. One thing's for sure, it'll be a very interesting weather weekend!
Enjoy!
